A Menina Gotinha de Água

at the World Music Days 2014 (Wroclaw, Poland)




The Polish Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music announced the results for the World Music Days 2014 Festival, which will take place on October 3-12, 2014 in Wroclaw (Poland). Miguel Azguime’s children opera A Menina Gotinha de Água (The Little Girl Water Droplet) was chosen by the jury (Elzbieta Sikora, Pierre Jodlowski, Luca Francesconi, Peter Swinnen and Jacek Rogala) in the 5th category, One Act Opera for Children.

Notes on Books

New electroacoustic piece by Miguel Azguime





Miguel Azguime’s new electroacoustic piece Notes on Books, commissioned by the INA - GRM and composed within the Composing with Sounds project, will be premiered on April 14 at the Ionian University, Greece. The concert’s programme will include music by students and composers from six European cities.


The Portuguese premiere performance of Notes on Books will take place on April 19 during the Miso Music Portugal Concert Season at the Goethe Institute in Lisbon.

A Laugh to Cry

New Op-Era Project

Miguel Azguime’s new multimedia opera A Laugh to Cry, a commission of the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, will have its avant-première and world-premiere performances in Lisbon (July) and Warsaw (September). A Laugh to Cry explores some primary concerns, which have always haunted human beings, and reveals them from the perspective of our contemporary globalized world. The opera is shaped like a meditation on the hegemonic power of the destruction of memory, the devastation of the Earth and even the collapse of humanity.


A Laugh to Cry is a co-production of the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music (Poland), the Norrbottensmusiken / Norrbotten NEO (Sweden), the São Luiz Municipal Theatre (Portugal), and the Miso Music Portugal.

Workshop for Composers

Warsaw Autumn Festival




On September 23 Miguel Azguime gave a workshop and lecture for young composers and pupils of the State Music School Complex No. 1 in Warsaw. The event, within the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, was coorganized by the Polish Music Information Center POLMIC and the mic.pt in the framework of the MINSTREL project.

World-premiere

Naturezas da Menina Gotinha de Água



The world-premiere performance of Miguel Azguime’s new choral work Naturezas da Menina Gotinha de Água, will take place during the Música Viva 2013 Festival, on December 13 at the São Luiz Municipal Theatre. The piece will be performed during the concert of the Lisbon University Children & Youth Choir, conducted by Erica Mandillo.

Within the Música Viva 2013 Festival Miguel Azguime will also present his new interactive multimedia installation, Retrato, realized with André Baltazar from the CITAR Centre at the Catholic University of Portugal in Porto.

Miguel Azguime will be also giving workshops on sound spatialization (December 9 & 10), as well as courses for young and adults, Compose with Sounds Atelier (December 8).

Sound design in Emmanuel Nunes’ Ruf

On last Saturday, March 9, Miguel Azguime realized the sound design of the work Ruf by Emmanuel Nunes, during a performance of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa conducted by Pedro Amaral, at the Belém Arts Centre. Apart from the Portuguese composer's essential work, which joins the orchestra with electronic sounds, the concert entitled In Memoriam also included Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen.

Video fragments of Miguel Azguime's work O Ar do Texto Opera a Forma do Som Interior are being presented between March 11 and April 11 within an installation / exposition, Videopoéticas II, curated by Elson Fróes. The installation, which includes 84 videos from Brazil, Argentina and Portugal revolves around the diversity of poetry - from ancient Greece to contemporary art of performance. It is integrated in the I Festival Poesia Nova held at the Centro Cultural São Paulo.

Miguel Azguime at Conversations with Portuguese
Contemporary Cmposers


On May 3 Miguel Azguime will participate in the meeting, Conversas com Compositores Portugueses Contemporâneos, during which Rui Penha will be moderating a conversation around the composer's work. This cycle of monthly meetings, organized by the Atelier de Composição in Porto, aims to present Portuguese contemporary authors - "who they are, how they think of music, and what are their inspirations." Within an informal conversation, and confronting various generations, the Conversations are an opportunity to listen to the music of each invited composer, serving as a departure point to approach their ideas concerning composition, technique and aesthetics.

Miguel Azguime’s Residency
In Grenoble


In the framework of the European Art Science and Technology Network, throughout this year Miguel Azguime is realizing an artistic residency at the ACROE Studio in Grenoble (Association for the Creation and Research on Expression Tools). In the context of this residency, whose first two-week period will begin on May 5, Miguel Azguime will compose a new work using physical modelling synthesis and the Genesis software.

A Laugh to Cry
on the Warsaw Autumn Chronicle


Miguel Azguime's opera A Laugh to Cry, which was premiered last year in September at the Warsaw Autumn Festival, has been released on CD no. 6 of the Sound Chronicle of the 56 Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music. This live recording, which was produced by the Polish Composer's Union, the Warsaw Autumn Festival and the Polish Music Information Centre, includes the performances of Frances M. Lynch, Marina Pacheco, Ágata Mandillo, Nicholas Isherwood, Miguel Azguime and the Norbotten NEO Ensemble conducted by Petter Sundkvist.

Soit Seul Sûr de Son

within the As Coisas und andere Dinge project


Miguel Azguime's piece Soit Seul Sûr de Son for violin is integrated in the project As Coisas und andere Dinge, which will be presented on May 21 at the AckerStadtPalast in Berlin. This performance is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of democracy in Portugal, in the time when this system is being challenged by the EU crisis. It combines Portuguese works performed by musicians from Lisbon and Berlin, as well as the sound theatre As Coisas by Maria da Rocha Gonçalves and Andre Bartetzki, based on the story under the same title by José Saramago.

Miguel Azguime at Terra do Som


In the framework of the Terra do Som Festival and the event's partnership with Miso Music Portugal, Miguel Azguime is one of the Festival's invited curators. Terra do Som is organized by the audiobook label BOCA, and it will be taking place at the São Jorge Cinema in Lisbon between May 30 and June 1. The Festival constitutes a showcase of radio sounds, radio reports, documentaries and other radio creations, to which Miso Music Portugal contributed with a series of sound works originating from its vast archive, as well as from an international "call" realized in collaboration with the Ars Acustica Group of the European Broadcasting Union.

Miguel Azguime at Conversations with Portuguese Contemporary Composers


The next meeting within the cycle Conversas com Compositores Portugueses Contemporâneos will take place on May 31 in Porto at the Gato Vadio, and this time Miguel Azguime, who presented his work at the last meeting on May 3, will be moderating a conversation with Luís Antunes Pena.
